Words from those a lot wiser than me

Updated: Jun 10, 2018

"Time ripens all things, no man is born wise." Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra

Words of wisdom: the quality or state of being wise; knowledge of what is true or rightcoupled with just judgment as to action; sagacity, discernment, or insight.

Words of wisdom, words that won't be coming from me because mine are less than inspiring, but rather from those who have experienced more life; the hardships, the good times, and all the lessons learned in between.

For the past couple years, I have kept a journal and when I hear anything that inspires me, makes me think, or a piece of literature that speaks to me, I write it down. Over this time, I have experienced all the emotions on the spectrum, and the journal reflects that. While looking back and reading them, I realize just how essential going through different "seasons" of my life was into making me who I am today.

All of these words helped me in my time of joy, pain, heartbreak, and stress, so I hope these wise words of wisdom leave you feeling a little smarter, or at least sounding like it.

Wise words on life:

"We waste so many days waiting for the weekend. So many nights wanting morning. Our lust for future comfort is the biggest thief of life." -Joshua Glenn Clark

"Maybe the journey isn't so much about becoming anything, but unbecoming everything that isn't really you, so you can be who you were meant to be in the first place."

"Seven billion people experienced this day in a different way."

"Life is a journey, not a destination." -Ralph Waldo Emerson

"It is up to you to see the beauty of everyday things."

Wise words on self-image:

"Why is it that you search for your own beauty in the eyes of others?" -Emma Bleker

"Love yourself first and everything else falls into place." -Lucile Ball

"Jealousy only eats up your beauty. Have more faith in yourself, you've got something that other people don't."

"Find out who you are and do it on purpose." -Dolly Parton

"Love yourself, embrace your flaws, and never let the opinion of others affect your self confidence. You are enough."

"You attract the right things when you have a sense of who you are." -Amy Poehler

"I am mine before I am anyone else's."

Wise words in time of heartbreak:

"Forgive me for picking back up what I've already laid down at your feet, Lord."

"You can't make somebody "get it". Effort is a reflection of interest and you can't force them to see that you're worth it. Be wise enough not to waste your time, patient enough not to settle, and strong enough not to force it. Whatever is meant to be will be."

"Sometimes in life, your situation will keep repeating itself until you've learned your lesson."

"This too shall pass."

"Your value doesn't decrease based on someone's inability to see your worth."

"What is meant for you won't ever miss you."

"There comes a day when you realize turning the page is the best feeling in the world-because you realize there's so much more to the book than the page you were stuck on."

Wise words in time of worry:

"Sometimes it's not about having all the answers. It's about just trusting yourself, leaning in the direction of what feels right and focusing on living the day in front of you the best you can."

"We must let go of the life we have planned, so as to accept the one that is waiting for us."

"Worrying won't stop bad stuff from happening, it just stop you from enjoying the good."

"Stress makes you believe that everything has to happen right now. Faith reassures you that everything will happen in God's timing."

"The past, I think, has helped me appreciate the present, and I don't want to spoil any of it by fretting about the future."-Audrey Hepburn

"Worry fades away when we know for sure our future is secure in God's hands."

Wise words on patience:

"Some day we will find what we are looking for, or maybe we won't. Maybe we will find something much greater than that."

"Our attempts to rush God's timing can spoil the beauty of His plans for our lives."

"It might take a year, it might take a day, but what's meant to be will always find its way."

"What God does in us while we wait is as important as what it is we are waiting for."

"What's comin' will come and we'll meet it when it does." -Hagrid

"The strength of patience hangs on our capacity to believe that God is up to something good for us in all our delays and detours." -John Piper

In life, we do not always have the answers or know what to do, or at least I don't. This is why I am so thankful for those who are wiser than me. Those who have experienced more pain, trials, struggles, and heartbreak that can teach me something about it. I have always being encouraged by peoples words, but hearing advice from someone who has gone through the same struggles as me, makes me take them to heart that much more.

So next time you are struggling with something, take a minute and listen to someone else. They may have the words of wisdom, the words that are meant to heal you.

"Turn your wounds into wisdom."
