Kansas City Weekend Getaway

Back in September, Tyler and I took a weekend trip to Kansas City to celebrate dating for two years. We both love traveling so decided to do that instead of gifts. Kansas City was so beautiful and we had such a good time! Here is a guide of different things to do while in KC.

Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art was so beautiful and huge! We went to Crystal Bridges in Arkansas on our firs date, so we thought another art museum would be fun to celebrate 2 years. They had a little bit of everything. We saw art from all over the world and from all time periods. This is the spot where we took the most pictures, but everything was just so beautiful! You could spend hours here exploring around. Don't forget to go outside and see the sculptures and the glass maze!

For all the ladies that love Hallmark, you will definitely want to stop in here. I convinced Tyler to take me to the Hallmark Visitors Center and it ended up being one of our favorite parts of the trip. I loved seeing all the history of Hallmark. You saw the evolution of Hallmark cards, old commercials, and the movies that won awards (don't let the men in your life tell you they aren't good movies). We also got to see how they made the bows which was super neat. After looking through the center, we went to the gift shop. Tyler and I get an ornament everywhere we go, so we were looking at all of our options. After talking to the worker, he finally asked, "are y'all newlyweds?". We looked at each other and laughed and said no. He said, "well you two just have that look." He apologized over and over again and even gave us some free chocolate when we checked out. We talked for another thirty minutes and even took a picture with him (which I texted to him). He kept saying how well we went together and how happy we seemed with each other. After we left, he sent us a text thanking us for the photo and that our conversation made his day. He said he could tell we were very much in love and had a passion for life which he doesn't see much of anymore. He said so many other sweet things as we continued to chat. Fast forward to Christmas, he texted us just checking in and saying Merry Christmas. Not to worry y'all, we will invite him to our wedding.

Our new Hallmark friend recommended this cute coffee shop. It was called Messenger Coffee Co. and is three stories. I am so not a coffee person but they did have a beautiful shop and some good bread!

We also stopped by Liberty Memorial (National WWI Museum and Memorial) to see the view that everyone told us about. It was very windy but worth it to see the view. You can also go up to the view at the top of the tower, but we didn't want to pay!

Next up was Laugh-O-Gram Mural for Walt Disney. If you didn't know, Walt Disney was born in KC and that is where he began his career. We ran over to grab a picture of the mural and see the now abandoned warehouse where Mickey Mouse was thought of.

Before we headed out, we stopped for brunch at the Union Station. I absolutely love everything about this place. The architecture is beautiful and the food at Harvey's is so good. You definitely want to stop in here to grab some food.

We ate a Q39 for some delicious barbecue. If you are in KC get barbecue! There are lots of good places but you must get barbecue!

Tyler and I loved the night life in KC too. The Power and Lights District-Kansas City Live was so much fun and had the best atmosphere. It is an entire city block with two levels of restaurants, taverns, and night spots. We loved grabbing a drink and just hanging out with each other. Sadly I did not get any good pictures, but you can google to see better ones.

We found a couple spots that we wanted to take a photo at! So keep your eyes open for good wall murals!

We did not get to do everything that was on our list so here are some other options that I had recommended to me.
