My whole life, people have told me to focus on myself and the right guy will come along. Of course this is followed by a nod and a "I know", but this can be kind of a loaded statement. What do they mean when they say focus on yourself? I remember thinking it meant to just do what I want and then one day someone will come along and that will be that (of course way more dramatic because this girl has watched every romance movie ever made). I never really understood the meaning behind the statement until I got older and started "finding myself" (discussion on that another time) and two years ago "the right guy" came along. Now that I am on the other side of it, I can more clearly understand what "focus on yourself" and "be what you want to attract" means. For me, there were lots of things that I wanted in a man that I was going to spend my life with. I had high expectations (and that is definitely a good thing) for this person. While I was waiting for this person I realized I should be the best version of myself so they would notice and be interested in me. I also wanted (and still do) to be the best I could (can) be for myself, my family, and my future (not all about the significant other).
Not too long ago, I made a post about "be with someone who". If you want to check that out, click here. While they are all great things, recently I have learned (again) it can also depend on you. If you want "to be with someone who", then you need to "be someone who". Yeah we all know, become what you want to attract, but do we really live day to day with this in mind? If you're still following along and are up for a little self-evaluation then keep on reading.
Be someone who sees the good in everyone.
Be someone who never puts their beliefs and values to the side.
Be someone who appreciates life and lives every moment to the fullest.
Be someone who loves well.
Be someone who is upfront and honest.
Be someone who values other opinions, even if they don't match your own.
Be someone who celebrates all accomplishments and learns from the failures.
Be someone who is thankful for what they have and not dwell on what they don't.
Be someone who serves others.
Be someone that follows their dreams and wishes.
Be someone who is patient and kind.
Be someone who has a forgiving heart, not one that holds grudges.
Be someone who helps those in need.
Be someone who values others.
Be someone who supports and uplifts others.
Be someone who continues to learn everyday.
Be someone who puts others before yourself.
Be someone who is always trying to better yourself.
Be someone who you would be proud of.
This is far from a complete list of characteristics that I want to have, but it's a start. I challenge you to take some time and write down who you want to be. This may sound silly, but we owe it to ourselves, our future "someone", our family, and to our future.
Always try to be the best version of yourself. Life's too short not to be.
