Apple Watch Thoughts + Favorite Apps

Updated: Nov 4, 2019

I have had my apple watch for about a year. I chose to get the 38mm watch since I am a girl and have smaller wrists. If you are a guy or have a bigger arm, I would recommend the 42mm for sure! I have really gotten to know what I love about it and helpful little tools that I use everyday. I thought a post about the watch's features, tricks, and how I clean my band would be helpful.

Features

1. The text message feature is what I by far use the most. I love being able to check my texts without having to get my phone out. However, if you are going to send a long message back you either text-talk back or just get your phone to do so.

2. All other notifications: email, calendar reminders, and map directions are also super useful. I love using maps when I have my watch on. It will vibrate on your wrist so you know when to turn.

3. Being able to turn the song, turn up/down the volume, or pausing the music on my watch is very helpful. Especially when I am running, cleaning around the house, or at dance class not wanting to go back to my phone. It can sync with Spotify which is the best!

4. I really like the health and fitness aspects as well. You can monitor your heart rate as well as see the exercise time, standing time, and moving time. I always feel very accomplished when I close those rings. If I am close, I really will just keep moving or walking until I complete them. It is a definite motivator in my opinion. It also has breathing exercises for you to do during the day.

5. Other features that I like include: pinging my phone when I misplace it so that it will make a loud sound, using the watch as a clicker for my phone to take a photo, as well as a stopwatch and calculator.

6. You can customize your face of the watch. There are so many options! You can customize every single part of the watch face. You can constantly change it if you want. They even have Disney characters that will tell you the time of day, so cute!

Clean

I clean my band with a magic eraser. I typically use water or an all purpose cleaner. It works really well and is super easy to do. I am sure there is a much better way to do this, but it works and is stuff I already have around the house.

Accessories

I wanted to have a few other options for bands. I bought some off of Amazon and they are almost identical to the band that comes with your watch. I thought they would be poor quality but I see no difference. I got 8 bands for $30! Here is the link for you. I also bought protectors for the screen. I hit my watch against desks and doors all day and did not want it to get scratched. The link for the 6 pack protectors are here. Recently, JORD Watches sent over a leather band for me to wear! I really like this band as well, especially when I want to dress it up a little more. Here is the link for the JORD band I have.

Apps

There are a few apps that I really enjoy having on my watch. However, I typically still grab my phone for it. The watch is just great to remind me to do certain things. I like the "Breathe" app which reminds you at different times of the day to breath. It vibrates when you inhale and the circle on the screen gets small as you exhale. It is a good way to take a few minutes to relax during the day and you can customize it to whatever works best for you. Another app I have been loving is "HeadSpace". This app is a guided meditation in 3, 5, 10 minute intervals. They have different options of meditation for whatever is going on in your life (stress, anxiety, all the fun things) I use this app on my phone, but my watch gives me the reminder to do it every day (sometimes twice a day). Those are the only apps I use often besides ones that are already on the watch when you get it (activity, calculator, timer, alarm, Nike running app, etc.)

I am open to hearing all the fabulous apps that I am missing out on and other fun tricks I don't know about.
