First off, the name just sounds amazing. Anything that involves the words "hydration" or "facial", i'm all for. I have been wanting one for along time so I was super excited about this.
What is a hydrafacial?
A hydrafacial in a non-invasive skin treatment, perfect for all skin types. It is the only hydradermabrasion procedure that combines cleansing, exfoliation, extraction, hydration and antioxidant protection (all at the same time). This leaves your skin feeling cleaner and looking more beautiful. This treatment is not the kind of facial that you are used to, but also does not cause discomfort.
The hydrafacial improves the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, congested and enlarged pores, oily or acne-prone skin, advanced signs of aging, skin texture, hyperpigmentation and brown spots (aka this is for everyone).
In a nutshell, this treatment is "the foundation of healthy radiant skin".
How much does this treatment cost and how often do I need to get one?
Every place will be different! I went to Blush Beauty Bar in Fayetteville, which normally costs $145. However, they have a special if you book before you leave your appointment, it is only $95. Yes, I know that is still a pretty penny! This is only my first treatment, but I have really liked the results I have seen. I will continue to update this post as I get more hydrafacials and find other places that offer this treatment.
A hydrafacial is recommended every 4-6 weeks. However, one every couple months is better than never at all.
My experience
I got to my appointment and went back to my room. She asked me to undress to my comfort level from the waist up and had me put on a bath wrap and get under the covers (obviously she left the room for this part). After, she explained the process of a hydrafacial.
Step 1: Cleansing and Exfoliation. The dead skin cells were removed to reveal healthy new skin.
Step 2: Acid Peel. This gentle peel helps loosen dirt and debris from pores without irritation.
Step 3: Extractions. Painless (I promise), automated extractions using a vortex suction to clean out pores.
Step 4: Hydration. Antioxidants and Hyaluronic Acid are used to nourish and protect the skin.
Step 5: Protection. "Hydrafacial Daily Essentials" are used to help maintain and protect your results.
This process honestly just felt like a small vacuum sucking out the bad stuff in my skin. For my skin, she mentioned sucking out blackheads (but not all), helping my clogged pores (probably from makeup), as well as getting a mila. I had no idea what that was...until later I googled it. "Mila" is when dead skin cells get trapped beneath the skin's surface and form small, hard cysts (didn't know I had that, but glad it is gone). My skin felt very clean and free to breathe afterwards. I could tell it looked more glowy and was (finally) not in need of hydration. Obviously, all my impurities are not gone after one treatment, but hopefully the rest of my blackheads can get sucked out soon. I really enjoyed this treatment and cannot wait for another one, to get me better healthier (breathable) skin.
Two things I feel that are important to note:
This treatment is nothing like a facial (at least mine was not). It does not include massaging and lots of relaxation. While it was not uncomfortable at all, it wasn't a "spa like" experience.
A hydrafacial is not very long. Mine was about 15 minutes, which surprised me at the time. After researching, most tend to last 30 to 45 minutes. A short procedure, but very effective.
These were the only two negative things about the treatment, so be prepared for that! Just add a facial or massage and you will be good to go.
All in all- I recommend this treatment for anyone wanting better, healthier skin.
*Ask your aesthetician if you can see all that she sucks out with the vortex. I didn't get to see this but definitely will be asking next time.
Happy glowing skin,
